Four numbers that matter
Most frames display three numbers inside the temple arm, such as 52 □ 18 145. These are measurements in millimetres.
Bridge width
Distance between the lenses across the nose bridge.
Temple length
Length of the arm from the hinge to its tip.
Frame width
Overall width of the front of the frame, from side to side.

Start with what fits
Check the temple arm
Look inside your existing glasses for three numbers such as 52–18–145.
Measure with a ruler
Use a millimetre ruler to measure the lens, bridge and temple if the numbers have worn away.

The bridge should sit comfortably without pinching or sliding.
At the temples
Arms should rest gently without squeezing the sides of your head.
At the eyes
Your eyes should appear reasonably centred within the lenses.
